Lisbon Photo Diary

Last November, me and my girl friends heard that Adele was coming into town (for the first time ever, may I add!). Naturally, since we're all huge fans, we decided to get tickets for one of her shows in Lisbon – mind you, we're from Porto so it implied a full train trip back and forth, but we decided to take it all in stride and have a fun day in the capital, enjoying the sun, heat and beautiful scenery. Sometimes I forget just how beautiful Portugal really is... Anyhoo, here's a photo diary from our flash trip to Lisbon and a bit of Adele. I hope you enjoy it and that it motivates some of you to visit us, I promise you'll love it! ;). 

Corria o mês de novembro quando eu e as minhas amigas descobrimos que a (desaparecida) Adele ia fazer uma tour mundial, e que a dita cuja ia passar por Portugal – algo inédito! É claro que não hesitamos em comprar bilhetes para o dia 22 de maio, domingo, o último concerto dela pela Europa. Como somos do Porto, isto envolveu uma viagem (longa de morrer) de comboio, mas decidimos ir bem pela fresquinha e aproveitar o dia de sol lindo e quente que esteve na capital, que está linda de morrer em plena primavera. Às vezes esqueço-me de quão bonito Portugal é... Enfim, aqui fica o meu 'photo diary' da nossa viagem super rápida. Espero que gostem e que vos dê vontade de visitar (ou revisitar) Lisboa!

The architecture and buildings in Lisbon is something else. So beautiful, airy, fresh and elegant, it's a true joy to photograph! The three pics you see above are the views that greet you the moment you step foot out of the subway. Just stunning. 

Os edifícios e prédios em Lisboa são de uma beleza espetacular. Sou capaz de fotografar e fotografar e fotografar a mesma coisa sem me cansar. É esta a vista que têm no momento que põe pé fora da estação de metro de Santa Apolónia. Sou uma architecture freak, que fazer?

Lunch time soon came – we were starving from the long trip! – and we chose a quaint little bakery in the centre of the city. For a dessert treat, we headed to the most popular ice cream spot in Lisbon, Santini. Seriously, their ice creams are heavenly. The melon and raspberry combo... 

A hora de almoço chegou em força – estavamos famintas – e escolhemos uma padaria no centro da cidade. Para a sobremesa, não podiamos deixar de visitar a Santini! Os gelados são todos uma delícia e o espaço é lindo de morrer. Meloa e framboesa... Anotem.

The city is bursting with life and colour around this time of the year, it's such a delight to revisit and rediscover all these spots. The streets were covered in tourists from all over the world, enjoying the sunshine and the unique experiences Portugal has to offer. 

A cidade está sempre a fervilhar com cor e vida nesta altura do ano, é sempre um prazer (re)visitar e (re)descobrir os recantos de Lisboa. Nesta altura abarrota pelas costuras com turistas de todos os cantos do mundo, quem vêm aproveitar o tempo maravilhoso e as boas vibrações de Portugal.

The beautiful Tejo River. There's something so peaceful to be sat riverside and feel the breeze on your face, especially after winter. It immediately re-energises me and makes me feel up to face another lengthy week(s) at work. Also, my look for the day: total white for the summer, my uniform lately. I'm wearing a Stradivarius knitted sweater and sunglasses, not pictured are my Stradivarius white ripped jeans and jeans jacket (omg I just realised I wore a total Stradivarius look!) and my Adidas Stan Smith. Comfort over anything! 

E então... O Rio Tejo. Tenho que vos dizer, estar sentada à beira rio, com a brisa a bater-me na cara e com o sol no rosto dá-me logo uma nova energia para enfrentar mais uma(s) semana(s) de trabalho e stress. E, já agora, o meu look do dia: branco da cabeça aos pés! A camisola bordada e os óculos de sol são Stradivarius. Na foto não se vê as calças de ganga brancas e o blusão de ganga também da Stradivarius (acabei de perceber que usei Stradivarius da cabeça aos pés, quase!) e as minhas amadas Stan Smith da Adidas.

Adele... Oh, Adele. I'm sat here at 11 at night, trying to describe what we all witnessed this weekend at MEO Arena, but words fail me. I can only tell you that she's the greatest artist of our generation, hands down. I can't fully comprehend how a human being sounds so amazing, so angelical and, most of all, so much better live than on a actual record. How?! She's the living proof you don't need a spectacular stage and cartwheels and fireworks and being borderline naked to put on an unforgettable show. The simplicity of the stage, no gimmicks, her personality that just fills a room and makes everyone laugh and feel at ease... And then, when we all sang along to Someone Like You, overpowering her for about 30 seconds, she cried. Literally teared up in front of us. She's magical, and words can't even describe her poweress. Go see her live if you have the chance. You won't regret it! 

Adele... Oh, Adele. São 23h de segunda-feira e estou aqui sentada a tentar arranjar palavras para descrever a grandiosidade que presenciamos este fim de semana no MEO Arena. Só vos posso dizer que ela é, na minha opinião, a melhor artista da nossa geração. Não consigo entender como é que um ser humano consegue soar tão angelical, tão magistral, mil vezes melhor ao vivo do que em CD, sem sequer tentar! Um concerto da Adele é a prova viva que não é preciso um palco espetacular, nem fazer piruetas ou fogo de artíficio ou até estar em palco quase nua para chamar a atenção. A simplicidade do palco, da equipa dela e dela, ponto: uma personalidade que enche uma sala, que nos faz rir e chorar, de quem merece tudo de bom que a vida lhe deu. E depois, quando todos cantamos a Someone Like You, ela ficou em silêncio uns bons 30 segundos e, depois... chorou. Foi uma experiência inesquecível, qualquer elogio é vazio. Vão vê-la. Não se vão arrepender!
